This was recorded by the Portsmouth Sinfonia in an experiment where all the members of the orchestra would swap instruments with each other and attempt to play them to the best of their ability.

This is the result. And it makes me laugh every single time.

It tries to be so dramatic but it just falls flat. Love it.

I am not the first person you loved.
You are not the first person I looked at
with a mouthful of forevers. We
have both known loss like the sharp edges
of a knife. We have both lived with lips
more scar tissue than skin. Our love came
unannounced in the middle of the night.
Our love came when we’d given up
on asking love to come. I think
that has to be part
of its miracle.

This is how we heal.
I will kiss you like forgiveness. You
will hold me like I’m hope. Our arms
will bandage and we will press promises
between us like flowers in a book.
I will write sonnets to the salt of sweat
on your skin. I will write novels to the scar
of your nose. I will write a dictionary
of all the words I have used trying
to describe the way it feels to have finally,
finally found you.

And I will not be afraid
of your scars.

I know sometimes
it’s still hard to let me see you
in all your cracked perfection,
but please know:
whether it’s the days you burn
more brilliant than the sun
or the nights you collapse into my lap
your body broken into a thousand questions,
you are the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
I will love you when you are a still day.
I will love you when you are a hurricane.

Laura Marling - Bleed Me Dry

I have left so many men asking why
Why I go and change my mind over night
They can’t figure me out
They’ll hang themselves with doubt
Well it’s love they sought
And I was taught not to give it away
Unless you’re sure

What am I to do if I want to be alone?
How can I be sure of what it is I don’t yet know?
I can’t figure it out
I’ll end myself with doubt
Well it’s love that I need
And to love you, have to bleed
And I’m not sure I’ve got a job to spare
Can you help me?
Can you help me?
Anything you’ve got is gonna help this penny dry

I’d near done believe it when I found you
Giving up the ghost of anything love can do
I couldn’t get out of bed
I was all up in my head
And it’s love that I need
And to love you, have to bleed
And I’m not sure I have a job to spare
Can you help me?
Can you help me?
Anything you’ve got is gonna help this penny dry

I won’t leave you in the night
I won’t leave you asking why
If it’s love that you need
Your love is safe with me
Just don’t go bleeding me dry
Well it’s love that you need
Your love is safe with me
Just don’t go bleeding me dry
